Some Sketchbook Pages to Share

A few of my sketchbook pages to share.  Some are in the works, seeds for the future.  Some are finished as is.  The animals are done on site, and often within a couple of minutes.  All but the last, are doodles and immediate observations taking less than an hour.  The last was on site, and took a bit longer.

Sketchbook Pages

I don't always draw a sketch before I create.  In this instance I did.

There are many times in society where we feel like we are offering up our very soul for scrutiny by anyone who wants to do so.  They may point at us, good or bad.  They may try to squash us out, removing us.  This is especially so for the artist.

To create is something I absolutely have to do.  It is not something I am able to keep from doing.  Every creation reveals a little about me.  I am a Christian, and am made in the image of my Creator.  When I lay my soul before Him, it is bare for His scrutiny.  When I put my art out there for viewing, it is the same.  Accept, reject, ignore, or praise it, it is something I created.

This sketch became a colored pencil drawing.

Here I am working on the first draft of the piece, in 2002.  Eight years later now, and as we enter 2011, I am thinking of this piece as an art quilt.  So the idea will have evolved from concept, to drawing, and then into fiber art.  I plan on keeping the sketch with the quilt, until one or the other sells.
